— Professor Sandra Dudley, Belmont University

Teaching healthy voice technique to people of all ages is something I am grateful to be able to do. I’ve taught everyone from middle schoolers and university students to professionals and senior citizens. It’s truly my pleasure to help increase the effortlessness (and therefore the fun) of producing sound with the voice.

My teaching of vocal technique draws upon my studies in vocal science and my completion of Levels I, II, and III in Jeanie LoVetri’s Somatic Voicework (TM) — The LoVetri Method, as well as my extensive training while at Centre College (Prof. Daniel Weeks and Dr. Barbara Hall) and at Berklee College of Music (Jan Shapiro, Donna McElroy, Bob Stoloff, Cheryl Bentyne, Marlon Saunders, and others). I’ve been singing professionally since 2002.

I’m able to teach various styles, as I was classically trained before studying contemporary voice and subsequently making jazz my focus. I started out only using my head register as a classical soprano, and with jazz I found my lower register and mix. As I’m fond of saying, it’s all one voice with various possible placements. I have helped clients find the “missing” part of their voice, including classical singers wanting to sing jazz (and have an authentic non-classical sound) and contemporary vocalists wanting to use their upper registers without strain.

I have a soft spot for beginners!

I offer my clients the following:

  • Vocal technique in jazz, musical theater, contemporary styles, and classical

  • Jazz repertoire (swing, straight 8th, ballads, latin)

  • Lyric interpretation and phrasing

  • Rhythmic interpretation

  • Melodic and rhythmic improvisation

  • Mic technique

  • Stage performance technique

  • Chart writing

  • Coaching on singing in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Italian, and German

  • Beginning/Intermediate music theory

  • Sight singing

My rate is $75/hour across the board. As the single mom of a teenager, I understand that the cost can sometimes be prohibitive, so I’m keeping my fee as low as possible. I require no minimum number of lessons, as everyone’s situation and needs are different. I do see a greater (and faster) improvement in those clients who are able to study on a consistent basis.

I’m available during school hours during the week, and I also teach on weekends. I teach online via Zoom as well as in my home studio in Nashville. If you have cat allergies, we can make other arrangements. I accept payment via PayPal and Venmo.
